Transport consumes a third of all final energy in the European Union, accounting for more than a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions, according to the European Environment Agency. These figures make clear the need to move towards a greener sector, which will enable sustainable development. The challenge for the coming years is to combine ecology with economic growth to ensure the sustainability of progress in all areas.
The European Union has set itself the goal of achieving a transition to zero net greenhouse gas emissions, with a target date of 2050. To achieve this, we must focus the sector's energy transition on low-carbon modes: zero-emission vehicle fleets, renewable energy sources, and a commitment to electricity as a source of propulsion.
Greener vehicle fleets
To achieve the 2050 target, companies, self-employed and citizens must contribute to the change, betting on more environmentally friendly vehicle fleets, both for personal transport and in economic business activities. The leasing sector is strategic in this field, as it has more than 712 thousand vehicles registered in our country as of September 2019. It is also a sector in continuous growth: the fleet of leasing vehicles has increased by 14% over the previous year, according to sources from the Spanish Association of Renting Vehicles.
Investing in greener vehicles and leasing cars is already a reality for socially and environmentally conscious companies. However, it is also necessary to raise awareness among users, not only by publicizing the environmental advantages of Eco leasing cars, but also the economic advantages they bring, such as fuel savings.

The company's environmental awareness
At Alquiber we are aware of the need to invest in vehicles that are increasingly less polluting. It is a task for all of us to move towards a model that offers a sustainable future for new generations, and takes care of our environment.
Of the total vehicle fleet acquired in the first half of 2019, 14% of our leasing vehicles had ECO category; and we have already reached 4% of ECO vehicles of our total vehicle fleet. A percentage that we will be increasing with the renewal of our fleet in the near future.
In addition, aware of the challenge ahead of us, we have voluntarily implemented the UNE-EN-ISO 14001:2015 and UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2015 standards, which represent a commitment to our leasing customers and to the environment. By implementing these standards, we are committed to following an environmental policy, identifying and evaluating the environmental aspects and requirements of our leasing activity, in order to improve it.
By monitoring and evaluating our activities, we are able to take corrective actions to improve our environmental policy weaknesses, thus closing the improvement cycle. We do this because we aspire to be the best in our work for our customers, and also for the planet.
The future is everyone's business, and at Alquiber we want to do our bit.
