The temperature at which some perishable goods must travel

the temperature at which some perishable goods must travel

Thanks to leasing, thousands of SMEs, large companies and freelancers move tons of food every day that reach our tables in perfect condition. The transport of perishable goods can be carried out by means of a refrigerated vehicle, an isothermal vehicle or an isothermal van. This process takes place every day, but do you know how this transport is carried out and what conditions are necessary for the food to arrive in good condition?

The transport of perishable goods is regulated by the ATP (Agreement on the International Carriage of Perishable Goods and on Special Vehicles used in the International Carriage of Perishable Goods). This agreement has been in force since 1970 and sets the standards for the movement of perishable goods that may be more delicate. Here you can check the latest update from 2013.

According to this law, perishable food must be transported in a refrigerated vehicle. refrigerated vehicle or in an isothermal vehicle, in order to maintain intact the conditions of the products. For this it is essential that the refrigerated vehicle or isothermal van meets the quality standards, passes the revisions and is in perfect condition, as guaranteed by Alquiber's vehicle leasing.

Temperatures of perishable goods

The transport of foodstuffs is subject to quite complex regulations; having a suitable leasing vehicle - an isothermal vehicle - is only part of the requirements. In addition, each type of food also has a maximum temperature that must not be exceeded in order not to lose its properties.

These temperatures are regulated in the ATP agreement and must not be exceeded either during transport or during the process of loading and unloading goods. For this reason, it is especially important for carriers to have an isothermal van with all the facilities and customization possibilities, such as those offered by Alquiber's vehicle leasing.

These are the temperatures set by legislation for the main types of goods:

  • Ice cream -20ºC.
  • Frozen or deep-frozen fish, mollusks and crustaceans -18ºC.
  • Deep-frozen products -18ºC.
  • Frozen Butter -10ºC.
  • Other frozen products -12ºC.
  • Red Offal +3ºC.
  • Butter +6ºC.
  • Hunting Products + 4ºC.
  • Milk in tanks +4ºC.
  • Industrial milk +6ºC.
  • Refrigerated dairy products +4ºC.
  • Fish, mollusks and crustaceans in melting ice or at melting ice temperature.
  • Meat and meat preparations (except red offal) +7ºC.
  • Birds and rabbits +4ºC.

A vehicle for each type of product

Perishable goods are always transported in an isothermal vehicle or an isothermal van, but not all isothermal vehicles are the same. We explain the differences between each of them:

Isothermal vehicle: The main characteristic of an isothermal van is that it has an insulated transport box that prevents the exchange of temperatures between the interior and the exterior, thus protecting the goods.

Refrigerated vehicle: A refrigerated vehicle is one that, in addition to being insulated from the outside, has an additional source of cold that allows the temperature to be regulated between 30 degrees and -20 degrees.

Refrigerated vehicle: Refrigerated vehicles also have a device to cool the box, keeping its interior at temperatures ranging from 12 degrees Celsius to -20 degrees Celsius.

Now that you know the different types of vehicles for the transport of perishable goods, as well as the temperatures required for their transport, you only need to choose the renting vehicle that best suits your needs. In Alquiber we have a fleet specialized in renting vehicles in which you can find isothermal trucks, isothermal vans, and isothermal vans.
