Special traffic operation August 1, 2019

The beginning of August means, for many people, the beginning of their vacations. For this reason, the DGT forecasts almost 3 million trips in just two days (July 31 and August 1). What will be the busiest hours for this operation?

Traffic forecasts for August 1, 2019.

The bulk of traffic will begin on Wednesday July 31 from early afternoon. Thus, there will be long-distance movements in the direction out of the large urban centers, as well as on access routes to major tourist areas. There will also be smaller movements in the return direction of those who have enjoyed their vacations during July. Therefore, the most unfavorable hours will be between 15:00 and 24:00.

During August 1, Thursday, these outbound movements are expected to continue throughout the morning, to be located at the end of the afternoon and during the night already in the places of destination. The most unfavorable hours during this day will be in the morning, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

As these are two working days, long-distance travel will be combined with the typical weekday movements.

The DGT recommends planning the trip in advance to use alternative routes and avoid unfavorable hours, thus avoiding the traffic jams that are so characteristic of these special traffic operations.

More information, as well as alternative routes, can be found on the DGT website.
