Speed reduction to 90km/h on conventional roads

As of January 29, 2019 and in order to reduce accidents on conventional roads, the maximum speed on these roads will be reduced to 90 km/h.

Reduction of the accident rate

On conventional roads, 7 out of every 10 accidents with victims take place, with a thousand people dying every year. It should also be added that inappropriate speed is the cause of 20% of traffic accidents. The aim of reducing the maximum speed is to reduce the number of accidents.

Homogenization

With this measure, the speed on conventional roads is homogenized, eliminating the shoulder criterion. Until now, the maximum speed allowed was 100 km/h on those roads with one and a half meters of paved shoulder.

On the other hand, similar measures have been adopted in most European Union countries, with the majority tending to limit the speed limit to 90 km/h.
